Splatoon 2 is one of the best-selling games for the Nintendo Switch since being released in the summer of 2017. Like the first title in the series, it mixes child-friendly design and non-lethal ink-based battles. Which means it also attracts older players and a growing interest in esport competitions. If you’re a fan, you can currently get a Splatoon iConic controller via GAME in the UK until June 30th, 2018. But you can also get an official Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller now, instead.
The Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller has been released in Japan, and is available in the UK via Play Asia. It’s also slightly cheaper than the alternative official Nintendo retail version via Amazon, which appears to be the English language version. Fortunately all the Nintendo controllers are generally not locked to a region, so it’ll work fine in the UK. And because it’s charged via a USB cable, you don’t have to worry about variations in power supplies in different countries either.
The Pro controllers are slightly different to the standard Switch Joy-Cons. You get all the standard functionality of the controllers, including motion controls, HD rumble and built-in Amiibo functionality. But the Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller has premium grips, a semi-transparent casing, and the single directional pad.
It’s also designed to be held and operated slightly more easily for longer gaming sessions at home, rather than being optimised for portability.
The Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller is available from Amazon, and costs £64.99, which is £10 more than the unbranded version. Or you can buy the Japanese edition via Play Asia for £57.97. You’ll save £7, and you’ll also get the added kudos of having an imported controller. Obviously in addition to the controller, there’s a whole host of Splatoon 2 related accessories and merchandise available, including carry cases, Amiibos and more.
